Karachi, June 18, 2020: To ensure safety and well-being of the citizens and for reliable power supply throughout the city, K-Electric is removing kundas and other hazardous material such as illegal streetlight switches encroached on its infrastructure. During the operation, the power utility successfully removed more than 175 illegal hooks from Gulshan, Nazimabad and North Nazimabad areas. Also, 145 illegal streetlights switches and attached unsafe wires were removed from the areas of 13A, 13D, 13G in Gulshan, Five-Star Chorangi in North Nazimabad and Gulberg, Qureshi Colony areas in Nazimabad. An illegal network powering several hazardous hooks being run by a few generator shops was also dismantled with the help of law enforcement agencies in Firdous Colony, Nazimabad. During the drive, several illegal internal and TV cables were removed from 18 PMTs and 96 poles of the power utility.
Encroachments on the K-Electric’s poles tamper and damage electricity infrastructure, jeopardize the integrity of the electricity system affecting service provision, impede routine operations, hinder maintenance efforts and most importantly bypass electrical safety mechanisms thus creating public safety hazards. The power-utility reiterates that these drives will continue to ensure the safety and well-being of the citizens of Karachi.
K- Electric has highlighted that hazardous illegal streetlight switches, illegal hook connections, internet and TV cables cause the tragic electrocution incidents. The power utility has also appealed to all civic authorities and concerned departments for swift action against elements involved in such illegal actions.
