Karachi,19th May 2014: K-Electric in its press statement was proud to announce that the company successfully installed more than 500 new meters in LERP Musharaff Colony Mauripur, Maunch Goth Baldia and Mehmoodabad. Prior to this, these areas were categorized as High Loss Areas where the residents were using illegal hook connections.
Giving details the press statement added that KE has been conducting its Low Cost Kunda Conversion activity for some time. This drive was only made possible by the residents of the mentioned areas, as they welcomed KE and its team and willingly filed for applications for these low-cost new meters in Maunch Goth & Musharaff Colony Baldia.
The concept of “One Stop Shop” was executed where residents and shop owners could fill in the application and get on spot approval and low cost meter installation for an upfront cost of Rs. 2,600. Billing queries were also addressed on the spot by the KE team that was present.
In the area of Mehmoodabad, there was no electricity infrastructure and the displaced people of lines area were busy using electricity through Kundas from Azam Basti, Manzoor Colony and from PECHS Block 6. Due to these illegal connections almost 13 PMTs were constantly getting overloaded and that resulted in frequent breakdowns. A comprehensive plan was laid down by KE along with MPA Raza Haroon, where the cost came in the tune of almost Rs. 141 million. KE successfully installed 49 New Meters in this area after applications were filed by the residents.
KE aggressively launched a campaign in the three areas prior to this drive, which included awareness sessions for the residents, distribution of pamphlets, formation of camp offices in the two areas and taking the local area representative in confidence and on-board for this drive.
According to KE’s spokesman, ‘ This drive would encourage residents of other High-Loss and Very High Loss areas to come forward and let us help them. We will not only take the Kundas off for them with their support, but we will provide them with new low-cost meters and on easy instalment which will eventually reduce their load-shed hours’.
Deputy Chief Distribution Officer Arshad Iftikhar, DGM New Connections Munir Ahmed, IBC Baldia Head Shafqat Abbasi along with other team members were also present on the spot whereas members of the Tipu Sultan IBC were present at the Mehmoodabad site.
Going forward, the press statement added, that the execution of more drives will continue and KE will conduct similar initiatives in other areas like Allahwala Town, Aurangi and Lyari.
