KARACHI – April 13, 2017: Under K-Electric’s Plant for Pakistan campaign, a tree plantation drive was organized at NED University recently. During the three-day drive, thousands of students joined and pledged to adopt a tree each. More than 6,000 plants were distributed and 300 saplings were planted at the university by K-Electric.
Since the launch of Plant for Pakistan initiative under KE’s climate change policy last year, 62,000 trees have been planted. The power utility aims to plant 100,000 saplings by the end 2017.
Per KE spokesperson, “Over the years, KE has created various powerful platforms to engage the youth in healthy activities be it sports events, providing professional exposure to students and encouraging students initiatives’. Organizing Plant for Pakistan drive at NED is part of the power utility’s efforts to create mass awareness about the significance of a greener environment to ensure that a collective effort is made to preserve the ecological balance.”
Dr. Ali Hasan Mahmood, Controller Student Affair, NED said, “KE has been playing role of a dynamic mentor for engineering students not just in terms of providing resources and guidance but it is also the largest employer of NED graduates. The recent drive provided students from NED’s Green Society, with a volunteering opportunity as they co-managed the event. It also encouraged them to continue playing their role for a greener environment.”
