Karachi – March 08, 2017: K-Electric, under its flagship community development project ‘Ujala’, continues to streamline its distribution network by installing Aerial Bundled Cables (ABC) in various communities. The latest installation under the project was carried out in select areas of Bahadurabad, Clifton, FB Area, Garden, Landhi and North Karachi where over 74 PMTs were converted on ABC during the last week.
To date, over 360,000 lives in 27 communities have been impacted while almost 1900 PMT’s have been converted on ABC through the project. The utility has so far transformed different communities through the installation of ABC, new transformers and low-cost connections. Select areas of Lines Area, Saddar, Liaquatabad, Ghazdarabad, Rehmat Chowk, Altaf Town and Keamari are now power theft-free with a minimal fault ratio which were previously infested with illegal connections and fault ratio was quite high.
According to K-Electric spokesperson, “The overall drive against power theft and illegal abstraction remains a key priority for the company and has played a critical role in bringing Transmission and Distribution losses down to as low as 22% from 36% in 2009. This has resulted in exemption of 61% of Karachi from load-shed and provision of uninterrupted power supply to industrial zones.”
K-Electric launched its flagship community development project ‘Ujala’ earlier this year, with an estimated investment of PKR 5 billion to empower the lives of over 1 million people residing in 200 communities across its network. The utility has pledged to help improve the reliability of power of these communities while boosting socioeconomic activities through sustainable development initiatives.
