Karachi 31st Jan, 2014: K-Electric successfully conducted its 4th “Annual Safety Leader” award ceremony on the 30th Jan’14. These awards are conferred in recognition of departments depicting a sustained Safety Performance along with promoting a positive safety culture within the company.
According to a KE press release there was a 67% reduction in fatal accidents in 2013, falling from 9 accidents in 2012 to just 3 in 2013. Major accidents also depicted a fall of 38%, whereas there was a 64% reduction in asset damage which stood at 4 falling from 11 in 2012. There was a 14% increase in safety inspections in the year 2013 whereas an 18% increase was reported in safety trainings. In 2013, 15,641 employees were trained for this purpose. KE also developed 6 safety SOPs and 3 environment SOPs in the year 2013, which showed that the company sternly believes in safety measures.
According to a KE press release, amongst the generation plants, Bin Qasim Combined Cycle Power Plant II, Region IV from Distribution Network, LDC Department from Grid & Transmission, Engineering & Construction from Core Departments and Administration from Support Department were declared Safety Leaders of 2013.
A new award was introduced by the name of “Fire Safety & Housekeeping Award”. This award has been initiated for all KE locations which excel in area cleanliness and adherence to fire safety practices. The winners for 2013 were KE – Civic Center office location and IBC – KIMZ for displaying the best housekeeping and fire safety practices.
This system also promotes a healthy competition amongst business units which follow maximum safety precautions and environment protection measures for creating an accident free atmosphere in the company.
