Karachi, January 6, 2014: It has once again been clarified in a KESC statement that the company does not dismiss any employee without a good reason and that all decisions are made on the basis of performance.
Alluding to the protest sit-in made outside the KESC Head Office on Monday, which was organized by the KESC Labour Union, a KESC spokesman said that no employee had been dismissed in the recent past. The spokesman said the persons who were protesting were former KESC employees and that such persons had been damaging KESC property by staging protests in the past as well and had been subjecting KESC staff to physical harassment as a result of which the latter had sustained severe injuries.
The spokesman said these were the same former KESC employees who had attacked KESC offices some years back and had damaged various company properties. According to the spokesman, case between the Labour Union and KESC Management was already pending in the Sindh High Court.
In 2011, laid off non-core employees were offered a grand package which was called the FVSS (Final Volunteer Separation Scheme) which was accepted by all concerned.
It has also been clarified in the statement given by the KESC spokesman that most of the former KESC employees who participated in the protest sit-in on Monday faced criminal charges. As such, the company had the legal right to dismiss anyone from service who was found involved in untoward activities or corrupt practices. However, any employee who indulged in disruptive activities was given the opportunity to clarify his position. If a satisfactory answer was not received, the person was dismissed only after a proper inquiry had been instituted against him.
The KESC spokesman reiterated that the company had neither been intimidated in the past nor will be intimidated now by any sit-ins, protests or violence.
