KARACHI, Oct 31: Karachi Electric Supply Company has demanded of the Federal and Provincial Governments to compel the Karachi Water Board to pay the arrears of Rs 25 billion and the current electricity bill of Rs 600-650 Million every month that KWSB has failed to pay despite clear orders of The Hon’ble Sindh High Court. KESC urges all stakeholders to come forward and settle the outstanding dues of KWSB immediately to avoid any untoward actions by KESC in the future in compliance of the orders of the Sindh High Court.
The honorable Court in its order on Feb. 28, 2013, had stated, inter alia, that in case KW&SB made a single default in payment of its monthly bill, the electricity shall be disconnected by KESC. KWSB had given its consent to this order and had assured the court that there would be no default in payment from March 2013 onwards. Unfortunately KWSB continues to default in paying its current monthly bills in full.
In spite of the non-payment of current monthly bills since March, 2013, KESC has not yet disconnected the power supply to water pumping stations of KWSB and its other connections in view of water needs of Karachi population. Last week in another hearing on October 23, 2013, KESC submitted to the Court that KWSB had been defaulting on its monthly bills, in contravention of the Court’s earlier order dated February 28, 2013. The Honourable Sindh High Court observed that the said order of February 28, 2013 was clear and still in the field and KWSB is required to make regular monthly payments of its bills thereunder.
