Karachi, 11th June 2018: K-Electric along with its teams and law-enforcing agencies organized a massive anti-theft drive in Bin Qasim. The teams raided different locations in Gulshan-e-Hadeed where theft of approximately PKR 4.2 million was determined via 130 different cases. In an effort to continuously improve its network and infrastructure K-Electric conducts such drives in all parts of the city and its outskirts where tons of illegal connections and cables are pulled down, confiscated and the miscreants penalized.
Consumers raided were mostly residential whereas some commercial and industrial locations were also checked. 48 commercial connections were involved in illegal abstraction of electricity and these commercial consumers were penalized on the spot. Illegal connections were pulled down in the vicinity and associated consumers were given notices to clear their dues and penalties.
KE teams also raided ice factories in the area where meters were found tampered. K-Electric’s Chief Distribution Officer Amer Zia along with his teams was present on ground and said, “Theft of electricity creates problems not only for K-Electric but for people residing in those areas. Due to theft and losses, consumers face load-shed, fluctuation and PMT tripping. We visited locations and checked residential houses and ice-factories that had tampered meters. We are grateful to the Law Enforcement Agencies for their ongoing support and to the Government of Pakistan for making electricity theft a punishable crime. This has enabled us to send a strong message to defaulters and electricity thieves.”
Through such anti-theft drives K-Electric is trying to provide uninterrupted power supply to all parts of the city. Once again the power utility appeals to its valued customers to help KE overcome the menace of electricity theft and report such miscreants who continuously resort to power theft in their respective areas.
