More complaints receive from areas where power theft is high: KE Spokesperson
Karachi, June 22, 2016:K-Electric clarified in its press statement that no unannounced load-shed was being carried out in any part of the city including Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Quaid Abad and North Karachi. Most of the complaints being received are from areas where power theft is high, whereas 60 percent of the city is exempted from load-shed.
According to the KE’s press statement, normal supply of power was being provided to Malir, Quaid-e-Abad, Khokrapar, Manghopir, Dalmia, Banaras, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Qasba Colony, North Karachi, PaharGanj along with other areas of the city whereas in case of faults due to overloading, KE teams are always present on the spot to ensure restoration of power in shortest possible time.
The press statement further emphasized that outages related to technical faults should not be considered load-shedding in any case. Complaints of power suspension were mostly received from areas where there was high percentage of power theft through illegal hook connections.
Referring to the Gulistan-e-Jauhar protest which occurred on 21June, 2016, KE’s spokesperson stated, “The protest is unwarranted because the residents owe more than Rs. 30 million dues to the company. The residents have not made the payments for the past six years and instead of using meter for acquiring electricity, they resort to illegal hook connections. Based on these reasons, there are problems in electricity provision. We have recently installed a new transformer in the vicinity along with a strategy to provide new connections to the people, but timely payments and consumers’ support is yet required.”
KE’s spokesperson further clarified that all residential and commercial areas are exempted from load-shedding during Sehri and Iftar. KE also requests consumers to dial 118 helpline in case of regional faults or power suspension.
