Karachi – November 18, 2016: Aimed at encouraging participation of women in sports, K-Electric, in collaboration with District South Boxing Association, is organizing Girls’ Boxing Tournament 2016 tomorrow at National Coaching Centre here in Karachi. The announcement was made during an interactive event which was attended by representatives of K-Electric, sports stars and media.
The initiative makes K-Electric the first corporate entity in the country to organize a female boxing tournament at any level. In this one-day tournament, 20 contestants from all over Karachi will play 10 bouts of 3 rounds each.
MPA Sania Naz graced the occasion and appreciated the utility’s initiative to encourage boxing at grassroots level and said, “These girls possess good technique and fitness with great energy; all they need is support and guidance in the right direction – which we see K-Electric is providing though this initiative. We are hopeful that more such organizations will come forward to encourage future sportspersons in the country.”
Syed Fakhar Ahmed, Chief Marketing and Communication Officer, K-Electric appreciated the enthusiasm of contestants and said; “KE has a strong affiliation with sports and has always been at the forefront to nurture youth – providing them with the resources and guidance to inspire future sportspersons. By organizing the county’s first female boxing tournament, we are creating a strong platform for these girls to harness talent and demonstrate their skills. Being a strong advocate of fostering emerging talent, we will continue our support to channel the positive energy of our youth.”
Sharing her aspirations, one of the contestants said, “This kind of support add to our confidence and we are hopeful that one day we will be able to compete on an international level to make Pakistan proud.”
Nasir Karim Baloch, President District South Boxing Association and Rafiq Pirzada, D.G. National Coaching Centre also spoke during the event and stressed upon the need to promote country’s soft image with such sporting events.
KE has created various powerful platforms to engage the youth in healthy activities, in line with its commitment to empower the society and giving back to the community. The utility has been consecutively organizing KE Lyari Football Leagues for the last 5 years to provide the football loving youth of Lyari with a positive platform. In cricket, players like Younis Khan, Sarfaraz Ahmad, Asad Shafiq and Anwar Ali have represented KE a couple of years back.
